NIC Assam
State Centre has a Network Operation Centre and a DATA centre with the
state of the Art technololgy in A Block, Assam New Sachivalaya Complex : 1st
Floor, Dispur. We provide various
services from
this Centre at Guwahati.
The DATA
centre is equipped with 1 terrabytes of capacity having the latest SAN
technology with FB-FB connectivity. The SAN is having a capacity of taking 30
tape ( 100/200GB)media online backup. Various mission critical applications are
going to be hosted from this Data Centre.The services are being provided
24/7 mode.
The Network Operation Centre is the communication HUB for the entire NE
regions. Out of 27 districts, 23 districts are connected with
dedicated 2 MBPS MLLN from this NOC . The
three districst Chirang, Baksa and NC Hills are not feasible from BSNL
side to provide the 2 MBPS link. Again Kamrup ( Metro) and Kamrup has one
2 MBPS link since both the offices are in the same building at
Guwahati. The 42 Directorates in Guwahati are connected to NOC for
Internet/NET access with latest wireless technology ( RF ). The
other local users like Regional Passport Office, Directorate of
Census in Guwahati are connected to NOC, Dispur through
128/256 kbps MLLN. For ordinary dialup users also, we have the facility both
for normal and ISDN. User having an ISDN connection can get into NICNET and use
internet just by dialling a telephone number. We have recently
commissioned 13 sites under Department of Post network in Assam and
another 30 remote sites in Assam under the same project ( DOPT) are under
process to commission. For the firsrt time NIC is doing the DOPT network
on MPLS technology. Later after successful completion of the DOPT
netwok across India into MPLS all other network under NICNET will be
converted to MPLS.
NIC has connected 10 different locations/offices in Tezpur town with
latest Wi-Max technology. The Wi-Max HUB is in the DC office at Tezpur. The
offices are within a radius of around 2 KM Max. The project has been
commissioned in Jan 2008. It is the first WI-MAX network commisisoned in India
by NIC as a pilot. Very soon 88 districts in NER are going to have the same
Wi-Max netwrok covering 10 remote locations in every district. The Wi-Max has
been commissioned on 5.8 MHz which is a free frequency and without any LOS . in
Assam, we are covering 23 districts with 10 nodes in each of these districts
with WiMax.For installation photos click here .
NIC
is working for the most prestigious network in INDIA known as
Knowledge Network with 10 Gigabit backbone
which will cover most of the premier Educational and R&D institutes across
India. Thie network is a part of the National Knowledge Commission headed
by Sam Pitroda, adviser to The Prime Minister of India for
National Technology Missions.
